Disguise became an entity in the world of make-believe in 1987 when the Halloween costume and accessory company began designing, manufacturing and wholesaling its first twelve designs. The founders of Disguise discovered the need for high quality and more fashion-savvy designs in the marketplace, thus those twelve costumes were realized. The popularity of Disguise's first costumes grew by leaps and bounds, along with the celebration of Halloween becoming one of the top three celebrated holidays in the country. Seventeen years later, Disguise is regarded as the leader in costume design and manufacturing, creating more than 350 new costumes each year! Disguise also prides itself on designing and producing a multitude of accessories and a full line of masks, which has established them as not only a costume company but as an all encompassing Halloween company.
It was in 1997, when Disguise joined The César Group , an international costume and playwear group founded in France in 1842, that it became the largest costume and dress up manufacturing group in the world. Its influence is evident with Disguise establishing production facilities in fourteen countries and selling in more than sixty. Headquartered in San Diego, California, Disguise employs a staff over 100 employees, which peaks to over 1,000 during the height of the season (June-October).
